My name is Rod, I'm home grown, but not black (no problem). Suggest you save yourself a lot of waiting around for the cane to grow and buy some tonkin cane. Richard Walker in the "Art of Angling" books vol 1 tells you how. Bloody hard work! Better tomove with the times and go for carbon.

I'm afraid I haven't any information for you Ernest, only a request that we get to see the results should you be able to build a black cane rod from your own canes.

Cheers,

Adam.

It depends how long a rod you want. By the way, is this the beginnings of a reverse fashion? Bruce and Walker made carbon rods that looked like cane - black bamboo will presumably make really nice rods which nonetheless look like carbon. A bit like those chaps who build real flying machines out of balsa and VW Beetle engines that look like model aircraft. Don't forget to add an airbrushed colourful logo to the butt, preferably with a name like the 'anihilator' or 'carp cruncher'.

PS is senile dimension otherwise known as the fourth dimension? Or is it the fifth? (Peter Wheat knows more about this than I do).

Greetings Piscators. I have recently purchased and planted some rather lovely black bamboo. Can anyone enlighten me how long I will after wait before I can build my own Classic Cane rod(they are now 3ft 6in tall).I am now nearer 50 than 40. Will senile dimension set in before I see the fruits of my labour? May your canes be for ever creaking. Ernest Frith

I like porcupine quill floats...
