1. Do you have line without mould? ^‡
2. Are you 'of bait'? ^‡
3. Is your flask straining already with tea or coffee? ^‡
4. Have you missed seeing Northern lights again? ^§
5. Do you have a rod which works? ^‡
6. Do you have "permission to fish"? ^‡ (I know, but this is important, I wouldn't want to get you into any trouble)

What is the matter with you? If the answer to all of the above is "yes", then go fishing now...you can read about fishing when it's dark and damp and even small perch spurn maggots, except the lone perch of yore. Go on, out with you!

...and if none of those things appeal, then fiddle with your tackle...

† Well not strictly. I don't envy the commercial fishery match angler or "serious" carp anglers for example. But the general principle is good. I really envy those who have more time to fish than me though.

‡ Good Lord, are you sure you're a real angler? The rod works and you're allowed out? Get ye hence.

^§ To be fair, I'd miss fishing to see the Northern lights, more than once. On the 'must see' list.

¶ Oddly, I found this quote after I wrote my questionnaire, so either I read "The Compleat Angler" in my youth and completely forgot about it or, just possibly, some things don't change that much.
