My name is Mark and I don't mind if anyone uses it. Anyway, Dave, why does everyone call you Rodney?

These accounts are suspended as they've never posted or haven't for over a year. :text-hat-tip: :I am the Law:

I had an email from a member this week asking me to reinstate their account. Coupla things:

I've no idea who a member is from their email address or their actual name (except in a very few cases). The only way for me to match an email to the 'member' is to open the 'member' management page, one member at a time, and cross-check the email. There's still 80 odd of those, so I'm not gonna. If you email in, do please let me know your non d'forum.

The second thing: if you've found yer account locked as you're not using it and haven't for long period...I'll reinstate once, but if it's not used to post on-going, it'll be deleted.

I'm happy to keep the place going for those who post from time to time, even if other people sing songs about "the quietest forum on the whole internet", and if ends up with just those active posters and no-one else...I'm fine with that. :text-hat-tip:

As I've previously intimated, it's like a small syndicate where the only entrance fee is 'doing some of the work'. [text: busy-bee]

Fair enough, JAA. It might be quieter than most but its a nicer place to be than most!

I'm getting rather too many invitation for 'hot sexy babes' via the site contact email - someone bothered to crack through all the security questions a couple of months back and then register 38 made up names... [insert 'dickhead' smilie here]

The site contact email will change in the next few weeks as it works best to remove the email on 'the naughty list' and use a new one for a bit. I'll keep you posted, and worst case I might just post an image of it. Just so you know. :text-hat-tip:

I've been absent for a while but I absolutely agree, this is a delightful place for some quiet reflection and considered posts. I am really grateful to those who invest their effort in running PBTW: an oasis. :text-hat-tip: ,

I'm going to 'move' the forum to a back-site page on 'anotherangler.net' unless this causes any (technical) problems.

My plan is to move the forum and leave a divert in place on this web-page (http://www.thepathbythewater.net/) until the that domain renews in June, at which point it'll vanish into the ether.

There's nothing nefarious behind this, it's simply that there is no point in me paying out for the domain name registration on top of the others I manage, when I can put the forum onto another domain name.

Fear not, I'll keep you posted and if for some reason it all goes wrong, they'll be some link/note on anotherangler to where it ends up.

Unless it doesn't work, it'll almost certainly be be 'www.anotherangler.net/tpbtw/'

Hope the move goes without any problems JAA, and that it doesn't take too much of your time.

I hope it's not the sort of 60 seconds that I experience when Mrs GP says, "Yes, I'll just be a minute..." lol

That's what I'm afraid of...

It's often the case that stuff that should 'just work', 'doesn't. In theory I move the files, first telling the forum it's own forwarding address and all will magically 'just work'...Hm.

The forum code is over two years out of date. Just over a year ago I 'upgraded it'. Twice. It failed both times. The restoration broke several of the add-ons (that was a late night) . It's suggested on the help for the phpBB that it will work fine...uh-huh. If security becomes an issue and reversing a backup of this forums files into a 'fresh up to date' set of BBcode doesn't work, we might end up with a 'live' version and a locked archive. Annoying. We'll have to see how it pans out. :text-tumbleweed:

If you're reading this, then the forum 'moved home' OK and you've followed it. Well done. :text-hat-tip:

Phew. I spent an hour or two backing stuff up, but in the end 'it just worked'. :I am the Law:
